Today’s map is on deforestation in my home country, Malaysia. Whenever I visit home, it seems like everywhere around KL more and more trees are getting cut down to make space for new malls, buildings or homes. In the more rural areas, land is probably being clearing for more palm oil plantations (as if we need any more?!). So I thought I could make a map and visualise how much trees are actually getting cut down. Currently, Malaysia has lost 28% of its total tree cover since 2000. 😦
This was my first time using raster data for a map. It was really cool to see the data pop out after playing with the colors.
*Dark green = no loss or non-forest (since 2001)
