Continuing on the topic of deforestation… here’s a map of palm oil production in the top 3 producing countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, respectively.
Based on the USDA, just these 3 countries are responsible for 88% of palm oil production in the world.
The dataset I found has data from 2010 to 2013 for every country that produced palm oil. But for the top 3 countries, their data is the total average of 2009 to 2011. For the map look, I wanted to do a vintage vibe and also tried to match the map theme to the colors of an oil palm tree and seed.
