I created this graphic out of curiosity. I want to start using more raster data for graphics and I was trying out this open repository. The map design is heavily inspired by this National Geographic map of the moon. However, I incorporated my styling for the moon, typography, elevation, and moon phases infographic. The moon faces in my graphic are in the orthographic projection. Mainly because the output of projecting the NASA moon DEM into a Lamber Albert Equal Area projection didn’t turn out looking like in the NatGeo map. The edges of the moon became so squished together.
It was a fun one to make, and now I can finally remember whether the moon is getting bigger or smaller!
